Vevo Ones To Watch Artists:

Jorja Smith @jorjasmith_

Walsall teenage vocalist and songwriter. Her debut single ‘Blue Lights’, a soulful R&B track, was nominated for Best Song at this year’s MOBOs. She’s a social commentator, preferring to write about what she sees rather than herself, and her talent led to her being co-signed by Stormzy and Skrillex.

AJ Tracey @AJFromTheLane

MC from West London, who creates lyrical, fast flowing grime music. Since releasing his first EP in 2015, Tracey has been nominated for two MOBOs and has collaborated with Santan Dave. His third EP is out on the 2nd of December.

Nadia Rose @nadiarosemusic

Young Croydon rapper, whose experimental, fun style has drawn comparisons to Eminem and Missy Elliot. Rose, the cousin of grime MC Stormzy, replaced Azealia Banks at the Born and Bred festival in June. She also won a ‘Best Video’ award at this year’s MOBOs.

Will Joseph Cook @WillJosephCook

19 year old London based singer, whose melodramatic, indie pop is reminiscent of some of his favourite bands: Vampire Weekend, Everything Everything, Phoenix. Cook is signed to Atlantic Records, where his emotional but fun tracks fit in nicely alongside the likes of Vance Joy.

Most recent track: Sweet Dreamer > https://www.vevo.com/watch/will-joseph-cook/Sweet-Dreamer/GB1301600169

Creeper @creepercultuk

Six piece Southampton horror punk band, who have recently re-emerged with news of an upcoming LP, following their ‘disappearance’ in August, during which they wiped their social media presence. They are flamboyant yet furious, and signed to heavy metal and hard rock label Roadrunner Records.

Most recent track: Suzanne > https://www.vevo.com/watch/creeper/Suzanne/GB1301600186

Tender @tenderofficial

London synth pop duo Dan Cobb and James Cullen, who have been friends since their teenage years. Their new song, Oracle, is described by NME as « stunning in both scope and execution ». They plan to release an album at the end of 2017.

Most recent track: Oracle > https://www.vevo.com/watch/tender/Oracle/USBQU1600211

Raye @raye

Brit school student and rising teen singer from South London. Raye describes her sound as a « fusion of Electro, R&B and Pop » and her glossy and soulful yet gritty tone has led to comparisons to Lorde and Rihanna.

Most recent track: By Your Side > https://www.vevo.com/watch/jonas-blue/By-Your-Side-(Preview)/GBUV71601982

The Magic Gang @_TheMagicGang

Brighton four piece, whose sound has been described by NME as « rumbling geek rock ». They are signed to Warner Brothers Records and have been compared to the likes of Happyness and Wolf Alice.

Most recent track: All This Way > https://www.vevo.com/watch/the-magic-gang/All-This-Way-Vevo-dscvr-(Live)/GB9TP1501130

Skott @skottpeace

A Scandinavian singer-songwriter, who had allegedly never heard contemporary music until her teens because she was raised on a forest commune by outcast folk musicians. Now she creates haunting, soulful songs, with new single Amelia being described by Noisy as an « ethereal, soul-steeped pop song » accompanied by « thunderous beats ».

The Big Moon @commoonicate

Four-piece all female indie band from London, who recently signed to Fiction Records. Lead singer Juliette Jackson has cited Palma Violets as an inspiration, and the band has been compared to them, alongside the likes of PJ Harvey and The Slits.

Most recent track: Beautiful Stranger > https://www.vevo.com/watch/the-big-moon/Beautiful-Stranger-(Official-Audio)/GBUV71601625

Big Jesus @bigassjesus

Mixing ethereal vocals and driving riffs with heavy drums for a fierce signature sound. BIG JESUS originally formed in 2009 through Atlanta’s alternative rock music scene. Blending yin with yang, heavy with soft, can produce the most alluring results. Such is the music of BIG JESUS.

Most recent track: Lock & Key > http://www.vevo.com/watch/big-jesus/Lock-Key/NLB931601963

Dagny @DagnyMusic

If you’re familiar with Dagny and ‘Backbeat,’ you know why she’s on this list. The Norwegian singer’s energetic music falls just left of center, and her first single is irresistible to anyone with the faintest interest in upbeat pop. Her mother is a vocalist and her father a jazz musician, so a great foundation was in place from birth.

Kiah Victoria @kiahvictoria

You can hear confidence in Kiah Victoria’s voice, whether she’s singing her expressive songs or just speaking over the phone. But the Berlin-born, New York-based upstart’s songs often depict just the opposite – an anxiety that accompanies one’s decisions, even as one approaches their most distant dreams. Victoria is currently working on her next EP and an eventual album, putting together songs in London and Los Angeles.

Most recent track: Cold War > http://www.vevo.com/watch/kiah-victoria/Cold-War-(Audio)/USA2P1689830

K.I.D @kidkidkidkid

The combination of Crossey’s alt-rock edge and K.I.D’s subversive pop chops paid off with an album that brims with heavy-duty hooks and raw-nerve realism. The aesthetic for K.I.D’s brand of pop was forged as equal parts reflection of and reaction to their hometown of Mississauga, Ontario.

Most recent track: Errors > http://www.vevo.com/watch/k-i-d/Errors/USSM21601387

Maggie Rogers @maggierogers

Maggie Rogers’ graduation from college coincided with a decidedly modern rite of passage — she went viral. The recent alumna of NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, lit up the Internet when a video of Pharrell Williams raving about her track ‘Alaska’ surfaced this yearThe video for ‘Alaska’, which premiered in October 2016, traces Rogers’ journey in a way; shot on her family’s farm in Maryland, it has a playful spirit that’s still in keeping with the song’s dreamy, longing feel.

Russ @russdiemon

Russ’ creative output is mega- impressive: he posted a new song to his SoundCloud account every week in 2015 — and all of the half- sung/half-rapped confections were crafted on his own. The Atlanta rapper, who boasts the melodic sense of Drake and the tech skills of a top-level studio hand, may walk among his rap peers. But, ultimately he treads a different path, handling every aspect of recording (writing, producing, mixing, engineering, mastering) and wearing the accomplishment proudly on his sleeve.

Stanaj @stanaj

The first thing you’ll notice about Stanaj is the sweep of his voice. The 22-year-old singer-songwriter who gained notice with YouTube covers of Kanye West’s ‘Only One’ and Drake’s ‘Marvins Room’ now has an Instagram account stuffed with kudos from trendsetters like Jay Z and Chris Brown. The singer’s performances are powerhouse events that remain vivid long after the show ends. Check his recent spin through ‘Ain’t Love Strange’ on The Tonight Show – the passion ran high, the music had punch, and the crowd loved it.

Tkay Maidza @TKAYMAIDZA

Though not yet 21, Tkay Maidza is already helping redefine what it means to be a Down Under rapper, sculpting her style in the midst of the booming “Australian Sound,” beyond the bubble of local hip-hop authenticity. Born in Zimbabwe, raised in Western and South Australia, and representing Adelaide (an epicenter for Aussie hip-hop), Maidza is one of the great young talents giving a global voice to the country’s electronic dance music renaissance, exemplified worldwide by the likes of Flume and Ta-ku.

Most recent track: Beyonce > http://www.vevo.com/watch/tkay/Beyonce/GBLFP0305697

Young M.A  @YoungMAMusic

From the clubs to the streets, Young M.A’s ‘OOOUUU’ is one of 2016’s dominant hip-hop tracks. The Brooklyn MC uses her jagged voice to deliver razor-edge lyrics with a sleek flow. The 24-year-old hit the radar in 2014, when she dropped the furious ‘Brooklyn (Chiraq)’ freestyle with her RedLyfe crew, a consortium of friends who rap, sing and design clothes. The openly gay MC also says a few fans have told her she’s helped them come to grips with their own sexuality, providing them with a persona that’s a rarity in modern hip-hop.

070 Shake @070shake

The crowd freaked when the 070 crew bounded onto the stage at the Trillectro Festival this year. The 19-year-old Shake has been on the come-up for more than a minute now and, as 2017 approaches, she’s poised to grab the shine that she’s worked so hard for.
